There are some really well done posts comparing Wix blogging with WordPress, or with WordPress and Blogger. Wix, WordPress and Blogger, these are indeed the most powerful tools to choose from when it comes to blogging. While WordPress and Blogger are more mainstream, as they've also been around for longer Wix is getting a lot of attention these days. But why is that? Can Wix blogging really compete with the others? Well, as always, it depends, here are some important perspectives.

Ease of use

Usability is always a problematic matter. With the Wix Artificial Disign Intelligence (ADI) though, there is no question about how Wix is the best in the business when it comes down to usability. For bloggers who want a stunning site, perfectly optimized for mobile with an easy to configure SEO tool, Wix is the one to go for. Setting up the blog is just answering a few questions and it's good to go. After that it's all about content: picking images for background, and adding posts. For bloggers wanting some more customization, it might worth considering the other options out there.

Setting up is no more than 30 seconds:

Customization

Of course there are options for customization on Wix, but it might lose there to others. Using ADI for instance, dramatically decreases the options, BUT after the site's up and running it's theme is easily changed. On the other hand there is the Wix Editor as well. What's great is that they have loads of templates, which are all awesome. After picking the right one all the apps and addons are available for page customization.

These are considerably fewer and less powerful than those of WordPress, but impressive nevertheless (Blogger is not even a factor here). In simple Editor the theme cannot be changed as there is no actual theme on top of a structure, there is only a template with elements already in place, only so there's no need to start blank.

All in all, for bloggers all about pixel-perfect self-crafted websites trying out other editors before going with Wix's is definitely the play.

OK, but what about blogging

All the aformentioned editors all very well suitable for blogging naturally. In this regards Wix is really easy to navigate and that is thanks to the fact it has so few features, I can count them on my hands. There are categories, drafts, archive, keywords, embedding stuff, etc. so suitable as said. But there is no option to set font, only 3 font sizes to choose from, cannot even continue a numbered list after an inserted media, there is no option to revert back a published post to draft just to name a few weaknesses. Wix's blog app is like a 2.3 turbo petrol engine in a Mustang: it does the job, it looks like a T-Rex on steroids, still not what you'd expect to find under the hood.

Verdict

Pros

  • Focus on content creation not web design (let designers do designing, bloggers do blogging)

  • As easy to use as it gets

  • Gives the whole package, well within the same league with the older brands

  • Gorgeous templates and themes

Cons

  • Lack of customization

  • Post editor is basic, barely usable
